Atmosphere
STUDY GUIDELINES FOR
OPEN NOTEBOOK TEST ON
"EARTHS CHANGING ATMOSPHERE"
***Your notebook will be a valuable tool during your test. Make sure your notebook is
organized and that you know where everything is located. Dont forget that your
notebook counts as a test grade.
Things your notebook should include:
1. Words to know list-with definitions filled in (we havent
covered everything yet, and wont cover some of it)
2. Layers of the atmosphere-colored, cut out circles.
3. TABA-The layers of the Atmosphere
4. "How would you solve these pollution problems?
5. A list of causes of air and water pollution.
6. Experiment-"Using Air Pressure to Lift Objects"
6 different uses for air pressure
7. Experiment-"Showing Use of Air Pressure By Means of
a Plunger." List of some more ways we use plungers
8. Experiment-"Explaining the Vertical Movement of Air"
9. Experiment-"Creating a Vacuum in a Bottle"
10. Experiment- "Why Do We Have Seasons?"
11. "How is Weather Data Gathered?"
12. Experiment- "Constructing a Thermometer."
13. "What Are the Kinds of Precipitation?"
14. TABA-The Types of Precipitation
15. "How Are Clouds Related to Weather?"
16. "What Causes Winds?"
17. "What is the Windspeed?"
18. "What is An Air Mass?"
19. "How Storms are Caused." packet with questions
20. "How Far Away is a Storm?"-questions
21. "Symbols on a Weather Map."
22. "Types of Fronts"
23. "What is a Weather Map?"
24. Comparing Daily Weather Forecasts for a week.
25. Graphing Temperature Patterns
On the test, you might be asked to:
1. Answer questions about symbols on a weather map-what type of weather does it
represent?
2. Draw your own weather symbols on a map to represent different types of weather.
3. Answer questions about clouds.
4. Compare experiments you did in class.
5. Compare the different kinds of precipitation.
6. Compare the different kinds of storms.
7. Compare the layers of the atmosphere and answer questions concerning the layers.
8. Answer questions about the best weather instrument to use in a given situation.
9. Discuss the causes and solutions of pollution in a given situation.

5. A front is a boundary that separates air masses of different ________________ and
humidity levels.
6. Fronts can change weather
a) very quickly.
b)fronts do not change weather at all.
7. Circle the correct answer. As a cold front approaches, air pressure begins to (rise)
(drop).
8. Circle the correct answer. a (cold front) (warm front) is associated with steady
precipitation.
9. True or False?
a)An occluded front is usually not associated with severe weather.
b) Low pressure systems are usually associated with storms.
c) High pressure systems are usually associated with fair weather.
